Kick-Back Friday: #89
From London to Brighton (2006): Oi, c--t! How an extremely hard-working prostitute (Lorraine Stanley) got a lance-worthy black eye is ultimately revealed in this time-jumbled portrait of England's lowest of the low. I predict big things for Johnny Harris, who plays the boss-fearing, middleman pimp.

For me, the best thing about this film was the catchy, upbeat musical numbers, which inexplicably were removed from the theatrical run and are now only found in the bootleg Director's Cut DVD. "Don't gotta be a lookah/To be a Brighton hookah", has been stuck in my head for weeks now. And the big brassy overture, "Oy! C*nt! A Pimp's Lament", with its spectacular overhead dance shots and relentless rhymes ("Dey got me on the hunt/Dat bitch & littl' runt/Let me be so blunt:/It's a cruel affront/No one treats dis' pimp/Like a flippin' chimp/Oy c*nt!/Oy c*nt!/OY C*NTTTTT!")---wow, magical stuff that transforms the whole tone of the film into the feel-good family outing that it was really intended to be. Definitely some of John Tesh's best musical work. Four giant thumbs up.
Not as busy today?
